PROJECT RESCUE | 2022

Dawn Deveraj

CHARACTER BRIEF

We will follow Dawn as the main character but she will be representing Project Rescue as a whole. Letting her narrate and drive the story will give us a more human and emotional connection to the people, as she has a close relationship with this community and has been on the ground and experienced the culture first-hand.

  • Daughter of KK Deveraj, leader of Set Beautiful Free, and growing up with 600 sisters in this ministry gives her a very unique position.

  • To see the women and girls from the Banchada community find freedom from sexual slavery.

  • She identifies with these women and sees them as her sisters. Since she became a mom, that intensified her desire for the girls to be free and have a bright future.

K.K. Deveraj

CHARACTER BRIEF

Deveraj has a very strong desire to see this community break the cycle of exploitation. He has a very sensitive heart for each girl, and shines the love of Jesus.

He will be the *helper* or *expert* in this story, as we follow Dawns journey.

KEYWORDS

  • Society has deemed this community outcasts, the lowest in the caste system, trapped in a never-ending cycle of sexual slavery. But our vision for these daughters and sons of God is that they will become leaders of India. They are worthy and valued individuals who can become educated, learn trades and become leaders that bring light and change into the whole community.

  • Much different than the red-light districts in India, the Banchada community have a deep-rooted culture that dates back over 500 years. Initially they were dancers for Kings, a respectable profession, but once the country turned to democracy, they were left without work, leading them down the path to prostitution to earn a living, as decades went by this practice became ingrained into their community at every level.

Today the community's culture, religious practices, and economy revolve around the systematic prostituion of their daughters. The roots are deep, which creates difficult challenges in rescuing the girls.

  • People that are engaging with us in some capacity whether at their church, event, etc. or through online mediums.

  • We want the audience to feel inspired and motivated to do something. To become a part of bringing change to this Banchada community.

  • We want the audience to partner with us in whatever way they can. For believers, to pray earnestly for this community. For donors, to donate so our ministry there can grow. For influencers, to share this story and encourage others to learn more and become partners as well.

TREATMENT

STYLE

To reflect the dark practices of this community and how old their traditions are, we will use a shadowy approach when filming the representation of the culture, the prostitution, etc. We’ll use camera movements, colors, and compositions that make it feel mysterious and deep-rooted.

POSSIBLE RECREATION SCENES:

Birth of the newborn
Girls dancing (for history)
Dawn walking through village
Jyoti inside her home
Leena in the village
Leena at the home & school

MUSIC REFERENCES

These are some inspirational songs that may or may not be used in the final film.

Darker/somber track for the beginning of the film when representing the evil tradition of family prostitution. Especially starting at minute 2:58.

Inspirational/worship track for the vision piece of the film. Starting at minute 2, the words “Open up let the light in” are a powerful metaphor for letting God’s light into this community.
