CHARACTER BRIEF

Shabana is the main character of this story. It is her story of how she overcame the “destiny” that she was handed, and by the help and support of The Academy and her faith in God, she is free to pursue a medical career and beyond. She doesn’t want to show her face publicly, so we will film by hiding her identity.

  • Shabana is very studious and loves learning. She's very ambitious and has big dreams and isn't afraid to pursue them.

  • She wants to do something great. This desire she's had since she was little has kept her motivated.

  • She started out her life in a poor situation with no real opportunity for a good future.

HOOK
1. Left at the dump

Shabana and her brother were left at the medical dump by the hospital when they were very young, her brother was extremely sick.

CONFLICT
2. No hopes for a future

Literally thrown away, Shabana had very little hope for any kind of decent future.

INITIATION
3. She wants to do something great

Since she was a young girl, Shabana always wanted to do something great.

4. Taken to the academy

Shabana and her brother are offered a place at The Academy and safe home. And Shabana loved it. She quickly found her love of learning and was made “caretaker of the Library,” her favorite place.

5.  Impact of a teacher

A teacher, named Fiona, was one of Shabana’s favorites. She was the one who introduced her to the love of language and taught her many things.

6. Pursuit of medicine

Shabana found an interest in pursuing medicine as a career. After failing the 1st medical entrance exam, she felt like quitting, but she got so much support from The Academy family to keep going and try again. The second time she took the exam, she passed and got accepted into medical school.

7. Momentous speech

Shabana was invited to give a speech at the International Women’s Day to encourage the other students. This was a big moment for her and she felt like she is doing something great, like she always wanted to. Her favorite teacher stood up to record her during her speech, and many of the teachers were crying, full of pride.

RESOLUTION
8. God has intervened and given her a bright future

Because of the support of The Academy and resourcing Shabana, encouraging her to pursue her interests and being there to root for her, she is now thriving. She’s excited about medical school and has big vision to maybe go into aerospace medicine, there’s nothing in her way.
