Ep. 78 | Think Churches Don’t Care About Missions? What’s Actually Blocking Your Fundraising

You’ve probably thought it.

Maybe even said it out loud.

“Churches just aren’t generous anymore.”

“They don’t really care about missions.”

And honestly… I get it.

You share your heart.

You present your ministry.

People are kind, they nod… but nothing really happens.

So it starts to feel like the problem is them.

But here’s where that belief gets dangerous:

It keeps you stuck.

What’s Actually Blocking Your Fundraising

When you believe churches don’t care…

You stop looking for what you can change.

You start assuming:

  • there’s not enough support

  • people aren’t interested

  • you just have to work harder or keep trying

But most of the time?

That’s not the real issue.

Here are 3 shifts that will change how you approach fundraising with churches—and help you see different results.

1. Stop Treating the Church Like One Person

It’s easy to think of “the church” as one decision-maker.

One mindset. One level of generosity.

But that’s not reality.

A church is made up of individuals:

  • different priorities

  • different experiences

  • different levels of passion for missions

When you say “that church doesn’t care”…

who are you actually talking about?

Because inside that same church are people who do care.

People who already care about the kind of need your ministry meets.

Your job isn’t to win over the entire church.

It’s to connect with the right people inside it.

2. It’s Not Your Job to Convince—It’s Your Job to Be Clear

This is where a lot of ministry leaders get stuck.

You feel like you have to convince people:

“This matters.”

“You should care.”

“This is important.”

That’s an exhausting job.

And honestly—it’s not yours.

People already care about something.

Your ideal donor already cares about the kind of need your ministry meets.

Your job is to communicate so clearly that they:

  • understand the need

  • see how you’re meeting it

  • know exactly how they can be part of it

If that’s unclear… they won’t act.

3. Focus on People, Not Platforms

Trying to “build a relationship with a church” is hard.

Because it’s not a person.

It’s a group.

And groups don’t build relationships—people do.

The strongest, most consistent support doesn’t come from platforms or presentations.

It comes from relationships.

Individual people who:

  • trust you

  • understand your message

  • stay connected long-term

So yes—keep speaking at churches.

But don’t stop there.

Look for the people inside the room.

Those are the relationships that last.

The Shift That Changes Everything

If you stay in the mindset of:

“Churches don’t care…”

You’ll keep hitting the same wall.

But when you shift to:

  • focusing on individuals

  • taking responsibility for clarity

  • communicating with the right people

everything starts to change.

Not overnight.

But steadily.

Ready to Fix What’s Actually Blocking You?

If fundraising with churches has felt frustrating or inconsistent…

you don’t need to keep guessing.

You don’t need to keep trying new things hoping something works.

You need clarity.

The right words.

The right message.

A clear way to communicate so people actually connect—and say yes.

Let’s build a message that works.
